The FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup has confirmed that the Saxon circuit of Sachsenring in Germany will host the sixth and final round of the series, Race DE, from September 23-25.
As approved by the World Motor Sport Council today, FIA ETCR will race on a bill including ADAC GT Masters, Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, ADAC GT4 Germany and ADAC TCR Germany at the venue most recently famous for hosting MotoGP with a racing history dating back to 1927 with the nickname Sachsenring in use since 1937.
The DE race will be a home race for Germany-based Hyundai Motorsport N team, located just under 400km away in Alzenau. The region is a hub for electromobility production, with the Volkswagen Group having two major electric vehicle production facilities in the region, with the Zwickau plant – which produces the CUPRA Born among others – just 20 km away and the Dresden Transparent Factory showcase just under 100 km away. .
Sachsening’s announcement, Race DE, will see the event replace the previously scheduled Race KR at Korea’s Inje Circuit. Due to FIA ETCR’s philosophy of sustainability, in particular avoiding airfreight and sending cars and infrastructure by sea, Race KR logistics proved impossible, while Race TR postponed will no longer take place in 2022.
