An investigation has found that allegations of a child’s abduction on Thursday morning are false, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted.

The 6-month-old child, believed to be in a stolen vehicle, was with a relative at the time of the theft.

Anthony Ray Gray, 38, allegedly made the removal request to get a better response to his stolen vehicle, according to Gonzalez. Gray was arrested and charged with filing a false report.

The vehicle was collected from the 16400 block of Eton Brook Lane on Thursday morning.

The car was stolen from a C-Store in Imperial Valley. The initial claim was that when Gray entered the store, he left the car running with the child inside, and an unknown man entered the car and drove off with the vehicle.

Gonzalez had tweeted a photo of the presumed missing child, asking the community to help find him.
