(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Jeddah, December 16, 2021, SPA – The Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) has granted the necessary licenses for the participation of Saudi pilots Dania Aqil and Mashael Al-Obeidan in the Saudi Dakar Rally 2022, making them the first two Saudi women to participate in the race.
The two drivers will take part in the 44th edition of the Dakar Rally which is to be launched on January 1, 2022 in the T3 category aboard the Can-Am Maverick which has been equipped by the South Racing team with light vehicles whose speed can reach up to at 135 kilometers per hour and for distances of up to 600 kilometers per day in extreme conditions throughout a demanding 12-day program.
Mashael Al-Obeidan said: âAttending this great event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is like a dream come true. When I found out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was going to host the Dakar rally, I contacted the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation to inquire about the possibility for me to receive a license to participate, then j received a phone call from Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, president of the federation, informing me of the federation’s approvals for me to participate in the race. Last year I was invited to have a 12 day experience to understand roadside navigation, and this year the dream comes true by participating in the real event.
For her part, Dania Aqil expressed her joy at the cooperation of SAMF, where she carried out several tests before the issuance of the license, noting that the Saudi Dakar Rally 2022 is characterized by its diverse course which passes through various geographical locations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. , in addition to the strong competition which requires a good psychological and physical preparation of the pilots.
